Did you know that Chatsworth‚ home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire‚ has been in the Cavendish family for 16 generations? There are over 30 rooms to explore in the house‚ which today contains works of art that span 4000 years. The 105-acre garden has evolved over more than 450 years‚ and continues to change today. The farmyard has been a favourite day out for children of all ages since 1973‚ and the 1000-acre park on the banks of the river Derwent was chiefly designed by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown in the 1760s. Chatsworth is truly special - it was voted the nation's Favourite Stately Home in 2012 after all.
Just 3 miles away‚ The Old Station House is one of the closest B&Bs to Chatsworth House - and certainly one of the most reasonably priced. If you are feeling energetic you can walk from here along one of half a dozen different footpaths to Chatsworth through the beautiful Peak District National Park - the most direct toute takes you along the Derwent Valley in just over an hour.
And on your second day you could visit "the most perfect house to survive from the middle ages"‚ Haddon Hall‚ which is even closer - just two miles away!
