Britains Top 100 Walks - As Seen on ITV

Did you watch this series on ITV?  If you did then you would know that five of the nation's 100 favourite walks are to be found in the Peak District - all within easy driving distance of The Old Station House B&B and one of them you can actually start from our front door:

1) The Nine Ladies Stone Circle on Stanton Moor

This walk features a visit to a small early Bronze Age stone circle and standing stones on Stanton Moor. The graffiti carved on the King Stone‚ which includes the name ‘Bill Stumps’‚ is also mentioned in The Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens!  Walking from here and including time to explore the moor would take approximately 3 hours.

2) Dovedale to Milldale

Dovedale may be known for its rivers and spectacular limestone gorge but other attractions include the wonderful stepping stones‚ curious caves‚ Thorpe Cloud and the free standing towers of Ilam Rock and Pinnacle Tor.

3) Kinder Scout
Kinder Scout is the highest point in the Peaks and will forever be synonymous with the Kinder mass trespass and the start of the access movement. It is one of the most challenging yet rewarding walks in the Peaks starting in Edale‚ also the start of the infamous Pennine Way.

4) Mam Tor
A walk in the Peaks over one of it’s most fascinating hills - Mam Tor. The walk then continues over The Great Ridge that separates the Vales of Edale and Castleton.

5) Stanage Edge
This is a popular outdoor location for walkers of average fitness to experience the many delights of the Peak District - and also famous among rockclimbers as the sheer rock cliffs of the gritstone edges actually stretch for several miles - all the way from Hathersage to Baslow‚ giving panoramic views of the beautiful Derwent Valley.
