For those out there who like to walk along the flat and want to end up in an interesting place‚ I am nominating the walk along the Derwent Valley Heritage Way to Matlock‚ continuing through the town parks along the river to Matlock Bath. This walk starts around the corner from the Old Station House and is 5-6 miles long. The first section hugs the river bank and in the spring and early summer the wildflowers are simply incredible. If you are lucky you will see trout jumping for flies and our mating pairs of mandarin ducks swimming along. The path passes the Peak Rail Steam Railway station at Rowsley South and continues through farmland to Churchtown‚ Darley Bridge and Oker before coming into Matlock. You can explore the town with its many antiques and collectibles shops before heading down through Hall Leys Park and following the river into Matlock Bath‚ home to the Heights of Abraham and a wonderful Victorian seaside town without the sea!
